Electrical Code

Electrical Code is a set of codes and standards intended to ensure the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment. It governs the use of electrical wire, cable and fixtures. Do-it-yourself home wiring projects must comply with the code requirements specific to their area. more..

Common Cable and Wire

This cable comes with two or more conductors and includes a ground wire (bare wire). It is commonly known as "Lumex" (or Romex for our American friends). T cable is the most commonly used. When I refer to two (2) conductor Lumex, I really mean one black wire, one white wire and one ground wire. The ground wire is never included in the cable count.
In a three conductor Lumex cable you would find one black, one red, one white and a ground wire.more...

Grounding

Why Ground?
Proper grounding provides a safe path for electricity to safely move from a defective outlet, fixture, appliance or tool back into the earth, which happens to be a very good electrical conductor. Homes are grounded by either the use of ground electrodes (ground rods) or by ground plates. Another grounding option sometimes used is the home's cold water supply pipe, providing that it is copper and is continuous to the water main. (Check local authority and code rules.).more...

Transformer

A device that serves as an input source of currents and voltages from an electric power system to instruments, relays, meters, and control devices. The basic design is that of a transformer with the primary winding connected to the power system, and the secondary winding to the sensing and measuring equipment.more....

Alternating current (AC)

Electric current that reverses direction periodically, usually many times per second. Electrical energy is ordinarily generated by a public or a private utility organization and provided to a customer, whether industrial or domestic, as alternating current.more..

Transmission Substation

The three-phase power leaves the generator and enters a transmission substation at the power plant. This substation uses large transformers to convert the generator's voltage (which is at the thousands of volts level) up to extremely high voltages for long-distance transmission on the transmission grid.more....

Power Cable

A power cable is an assembly of two or more electrical conductors, usually held together with an overall sheath. The assembly is used for transmission of electrical power. Power cables may be installed as permanent wiring within buildings, buried in the ground, run overhead, or exposed. Flexible power cables are used for portable devices, mobile tools and machinery.more....
